The Renegades - Thirteen Women (1966)

The Renegades were formed in Birmingham, England in the early 1960's. They never succeeded in their home country, but had a successful career both in Finland and in Italy (and some minor following in Netherlands and Germany too) during the 1960's.

The band performed in Finland for the first time in October 1964. They intended to tour for three weeks, but due to success and demand, they ended up touring for seven weeks. Their most famous song is their version of Vince Taylor and his Playboy's Brand New Cadillac (Check out their other fine songs like My Heart Must Do The Crying etc. too). They released the total of four albums in Finland, the last one was released in 1966.

Kim Brown: vocals
Denys Gibson: lead guitar
Ian Mallet: bass
Graham Johnson: drums

This is a great promotional "video" they made for the song. Filmed at the Tampella textile factory in Tampere, Finland 1966.

Although Kim Brown & co were definitely not forgotten or losers among the old school rockers in Finland, many garage/beat rock enthusiasts elsewhere around the globe heard The Renegades - 13 Women for the first time via this legendary Satan Records bootleg comp released in the 1980's:

Few years ago famous Norton records re-released Thirteen Women on a 45 rpm single.

Here's the original Bill Haley's version of the song. It was released as the B-side of Rock Around The Clock
